Face Recognition Check-In
Some studios offer face recognition as a convenient check-in option. Here's what it does, what data it stores, and how you can opt out at any time.
- 1
Stand in front of the kiosk
When the face tab is active, the kiosk camera opens. A message on screen lets you know face recognition is being used.
- 2
Your face is scanned automatically
The system looks for a face in the camera view. When it detects one, it creates a short mathematical vector (128 numbers) from the shape of your face features.
- 3
You are matched to your account
That vector is compared against your enrolled reference vectors. If there's a confident match, the kiosk shows your name and asks you to confirm.
- 4
Tap 'Yes' to check in
Tap "Yes, Check In" to complete your check-in. If the name shown isn't you, tap "Not me" — the check-in is cancelled and no attendance is recorded.
- 1
No photos are stored
The system never saves photos or video of your face. Only the 128-number mathematical vector is stored — this cannot be reverse-engineered into a photo.
- 2
Enrollment requires your consent
You (or your parent/guardian) must give consent before any face data is captured. Staff cannot enroll you without your permission.
- 3
Your data stays with your studio
Face data is isolated to your studio's account. MyDojang does not use or share biometric data across studios or for any other purpose.
- 4
You can opt out at any time
Ask a staff member to delete your face data. It is removed immediately and you can use other check-in methods (QR code, PIN, or name lookup) instead.
- 1
Speak to a staff member
Tell a staff member you'd like your face data removed. They can delete it from your student profile immediately.
- 2
What happens when data is deleted
All stored face embeddings are permanently deleted. Face recognition is disabled for your account. Your other check-in methods continue to work normally.
- 3
Re-enrolling later
If you change your mind, you can be re-enrolled at any time. Staff will ask for your consent again and capture new reference shots.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What if the system doesn't recognize me? Use your QR code, PIN, or name search to check in instead. Ask staff about re-enrolling with better lighting or more shots.
- What if someone else is matched to my account? Tap "Not me" on the confirm screen — no check-in is recorded. Tell staff so they can investigate.
- Is this required? No. Face recognition is always optional. You can use QR code, PIN, or name lookup instead.
- Can the studio see my face? No. Only the 128-number mathematical embedding is stored — not a photo. Staff cannot view or download your facial data in any readable form.
